Las Brisas de Cuyutlán is a little piece of paradise that we envisioned and created for ourselves and to share with others.

The walled 1/3 acre property and vibe is quiet, oceanfront, just 2 km (1 1/4 mi) outside of the sleepy little village of Cuyutlán.

On our beach we have built a classic labyrinth on which to enjoy meditation or just a peaceful walk in the ocean breeze.

Mostly it's about tranquility and the magic of the stars, the warmth, the breezes and the beach.

Our Village of Cuyutlán

Cuyutlán, in Nahuatl means "walnut of the palm," with just over 800 inhabitants is known for the Ola Verde, its salt, (harvested from the Cuyutlán inlet,) and the Tortugario, (Turtle Sanctuary,) that is just a bit further out of town than us.

We are proud to be known for our "Ola Verde"  Green Wave, which is most splendid from late afternoon until sunset, as the sun shines through the waves like a green jewel, while they break close to the beach. The waves grow until May when surfers come to town to ride from our black sand beach.

Going to the beach in Cuyutlán for the holidays is a generations' old tradition for Mexicans within reasonable driving distance (used to be by train or buggy) to invest their holiday time camping in town and on the beach.

The town is a little less sleepy most weekends than during the week, but nothing compares to the Semana Santa week - not anywhere - when literally thousands will camp on the beach for the Fiesta between the malecon and the Pacific Ocean.

The Semana Santa tent city spans the entire beach in front of the village and a a half kilometer in either direction. Vendors of every sort and a Disco that runs almost all day and all night - well til 3 or 4AM - provides as much food, drinks, clothes, trinkets and entertainment as you can imagine.

Back to normal life in Cuyutlán.
There are a smattering of abarrotes and tiendas (grocery and general stores) around town - and a few seafood puestos along the half-kilometer malecon. Every puesto has beach chair and umbrella rentals - so you can hang out all day and eat or drink to your heart's content.

There are even 2 Pokemon Pokestops in the village plaza - for those that still play.

There are a few Mexican style hotels, some with restaurants and bars to stop in at for a snack.

Fishing from the beach is a thing. Whether casting a net, using a surf rod and reel setup, a fishing spear or a line around a beer can - they all land fish. Just watch the activities of the local pelicans and cormorants (or local fishermen) to know where and when to toss in your line.

Surrounding towns

Armería, pop:16,000, about 12 minutes from Cuyutlán is the Municipal seat for our area. There is a tianguis (street market) there every Monday where we buy our vegetables for the week.

Tecomán, pop: 110,000+, about 25 minutes away is an abundance of Mexican shopping experiences, but also a collection of restaurants - big and small - along the 4 km of beach from Boca de Pascuales to El Real, there are almost a solid 2 kilometres of restaurants and little hotels.

Less than an hour's drive away is Manzanillo - you know, busy, touristy etc. - but with the most amazing opportunities for deep sea sail-fishing.

Colima, the state capital, pop: 150,000, is also under an hour away. In which in the main square, Jardín Libertad, features a 19th-century Belgian kiosk and Portal Medellín, a grand building with a row of arches.

Catedral Basílica Menor de Colima has a neoclassical facade and its origins date back to 1525 and is the oldest standing cathedral in North America, including all of Mexico.

Comala, on the southern slopes of the Colima Volcano, has been nicknamed the “White Village of America” as the facades of the buildings in town have all been painted white since the 1960s. The historic center of the town was declared a Historic Monument Zone and the town became a Pueblo Mágico in 2002. It is the place to get Ponche, or drink slowly and eat endlessly for free at a cantina on the edge of the plaza.

For some special water-fun days, away from the beach and pool, there are a couple of interesting options.

There's a secret place we tell our guests about but won't post its name or location here - to keep it special - its a waterfall and water-slide park - about an hour and a half from our place.

The natural falls are beautiful, and the water-slides are fun. A fairly big one for adults, big or brave little kids, and a kiddies pool with slides for little ones. The water for the slides is just the fresh water diverted out of the river that flows down the mountain. for only 15 pesos per person (about 1 Canadian dollar) it cheap fun for the afternoon. Bring your own food.

The other water-fun location - nowhere near the first one, but also less than an hour and a half away, is along side Hwy 97 across from the Armeria River between Madrid and Coquimatlán. is

Its a small stretch of spring fed pools that local puestos have outfitted with slides, rope swings and places to swim, splash and float on tubes or rafts - which can be rented. Local food is readily available. Parking is about 25 pesos, and the food prices are reasonable.

We are a pair of Canadians who had a dream of retiring in Mexico since our first visit in the early '90
This is us enjoying the sunset from the beach patio - a nightly ritual.

My husband has since died in 2022. However he has left a legacy of love, joy, peace and grace.
He built our labyrinth as his meditation and spiritual journey. It is a magical place of healing and for whatever you seek.
All are welcome to walk it.
