Surrounding towns
Armería, pop:16,000, about 12 minutes from Cuyutlán is the Municipal seat for our area. There is a tianguis (street market) there every Monday where we buy our vegetables for the week.
Tecomán, pop: 110,000+, about 25 minutes away is an abundance of Mexican shopping experiences, but also a collection of restaurants - big and small - along the 4 km of beach from Boca de Pascuales to El Real, there are almost a solid 2 kilometres of restaurants and little hotels. Less than an hour's drive away is Manzanillo - you know, busy, touristy etc. - but with the most amazing opportunities for deep sea sail-fishing. Colima, the state capital, pop: 150,000, is also under an hour away. In which in the main square, Jardín Libertad, features a 19th-century Belgian kiosk and Portal Medellín, a grand building with a row of arches.

Catedral Basílica Menor de Colima has a neoclassical facade and its origins date back to 1525 and is the oldest standing cathedral in North America, including all of Mexico. |
Comala, on the southern slopes of the Colima Volcano, has been nicknamed the “White Village of America” as the facades of the buildings in town have all been painted white since the 1960s. The historic center of the town was declared a Historic Monument Zone and the town became a Pueblo Mágico in 2002. It is the place to get Ponche, or drink slowly and eat endlessly for free at a cantina on the edge of the plaza.
For some special water-fun days, away from the beach and pool, there are a couple of interesting options.
There's a secret place we tell our guests about but won't post its name or location here - to keep it special - its a waterfall and water-slide park - about an hour and a half from our place.
The natural falls are beautiful, and the water-slides are fun. A fairly big one for adults, big or brave little kids, and a kiddies pool with slides for little ones. The water for the slides is just the fresh water diverted out of the river that flows down the mountain. for only 15 pesos per person (about 1 Canadian dollar) it cheap fun for the afternoon. Bring your own food.

The other water-fun location - nowhere near the first one, but also less than an hour and a half away, is along side Hwy 97 across from the Armeria River between Madrid and Coquimatlán. is
Its a small stretch of spring fed pools that local puestos have outfitted with slides, rope swings and places to swim, splash and float on tubes or rafts - which can be rented. Local food is readily available. Parking is about 25 pesos, and the food prices are reasonable.
